Making of himmelis (geometric ornaments) is an ancient tradition in the Baltic Sea region. Himmelis were believed to bring luck. especially cereal and fertility luck, and therefore they were made for Christmas, Easter, weddings and other celebrations.
“Star” box consists of 45 reed straws in three different lengths. There are about 10% more materials than a need for making himmeli showed in manual.
Description
The kit consists of:
– 45 reed straws
– linen thread
– copper wire hook
– instruction manual (in English, Finnish and Estonian)
The straws in this package are from common reed (Phragmites australis), which has grown on the western coast of Estonia and were collected for thatched roof builders. Later straws are sorted, cut and cleaned in our small family enterprise.
